About GoVote
Why don't some people vote? For many eligible voters, it comes down to a simple lack of information. Scores of voters, especially those casting a ballot for the first time, don't know where to vote, when to vote or what ID can be legally required of them.
At GoVote.org, we set out to build a site that makes finding information about how, where and when to vote as simple as looking up a movie listing online.
Special Features
- We're crowdsourcing information. Most election information comes from your county. There are over 3,000 counties in the U.S. And in places like Wisconsin where voting is organized at the township level, a state can have more 2,500 voting jurisdictions. We have the best information available on when, where and how to vote. But if we're missing info about your town or something has changed and our data is out of date, you can add, edit or remove information on our site.
- We're opensourcing information. GoVote.org makes key information available in XML feeds so you can create your own mashups and make it even easier for people to get the info they need about voting.
- We let users search by zip code or by campus. That means that you get info not just for your state or your county but tailored to what you need to cast a ballot on election day.
- We deliver crucial information in English and Spanish so most users can browse in the language they are most comfortable with. We're the only voting site that lets users toggle between two languages at every step of the way.
This site is a work in progress.
As users enhance and grow the data, GoVote.org will provide the most detailed and up-to-date voting info anywhere. Democracy is not a spectator sport. We hope you'll help us make it easier to vote by crowdsourcing info, taking our feeds, and building tools would never have imagined.
