Girls' Opportunities for Adventure and Leadership
Description
After seven years of providing camps and weekend programs for middle school girls, GOAL is now bringing its unique curriculum to more girls by working with schools, community groups and youth-serving organizations. When GOAL was founded, much of the existing youth development programming was focused on elementary school and high school, rather than on middle school. GOAL filled this gap by developing an experiential curriculum that addresses the issues that middle school girls face and by delivering high quality, engaging programming.
All GOAL programs are predicated on the belief that the most profound learning begins with direct experience. All GOAL programs are structured in a way that moves girls through the "experiential learning cycle" from direct experience, to reflection, to generalizing and finally to applying the knowledge to their own lives. Experiential learning creates an environment where the girls' experiences and interpretations of those experiences are central to the educational process.
By providing girl-specific, proactive programming that promotes self-esteem, self-awareness and respect for individual differences to the girls of today, GOAL envisions a future generation of strong, competent and resilient women, able to handle life's challenges with flexibility and a solid grounding in their own identity.
