- The character 'Gorgeous Gertie' is based on a real person, my grandmother. Gertie Lee Versie Seals was born in 1912. Somewhere around 30 years ago, my brother (Charles) gave her the nickname "Gorgeous Gertie" and called her that every time he referenced her. She was a very colorful person who loved to laugh, was was totally uninhibited, and was a bit pampered.
