Great Plains Institute
Description edit
What we do.
Debate over how to manage the effects of a growing economy on our environment and quality of life is often complex and contentious, with capable and intelligent leaders coming down on all sides and with few safe places to talk to one another. At the Great Plains Institute, we harness the creative power of cooperation by bringing together key public and private leaders from across the northern plains to accelerate progress on critical development issues.
Our current focus is energy security and bio-based materials. Because the Upper Midwest has vast and largely untapped sources of clean, domestic energy to produce power, fuel and materials, we are working with elected and government officials, energy industry executives, agricultural leaders and environmental advocates to capture the enormous economic prize that these home-grown resources represent. By engaging a strong, bipartisan, multi-interest coalition of leaders today, our region will prosper as outside events require rapid change or present unique economic opportunities.
Our work results in the best minds on all sides of vital issues coming together to produce and implement policies, technologies and practices that work for people, businesses and our environment. Perhaps most importantly people and communities are recharged through greater energy independence and the health, prosperity and security that accompany it.
