Mark and Lisa Graf's photography received an evolutionary jump in interest and seriousness after being introduced to the underwater world through scuba diving. Both had been casual snapshooters since childhood, with some photography awards before getting into diving. Anyone who has been underwater can relate to the feeling of being on another world and the awe of what there is to see. As underwater photography can be quite technical and equipment intensive, this began the slippery slope into being consumed by passions to not only share some of the beautiful things to be seen in the sea, but with nature above water as well. With sprawl and suburbanization taking place everywhere, it isn't suprising that a walk in the woods can almost be as foreign to someone as being underwater. Though the medium of nature photography, they developed an interest in communicating to others what there is to see, if you simply take the time to truly look around you. Much of it can be practically in your own backyard.
Mark's images have appeared in numerous publications, both locally and internationally, and shares his images through publication, exhibits, fine prints, and through this self-designed website.
Looking through a lens has taught them how to see without one in recognizing many things around them. However, making images only goes so far in encouraging and showing appreciation for nature. They enthusiastically encourage anyone with a passion for nature to support one of the organizations listed below. Everyday someone is maintaining a fight somewhere in the world to protect what they love so dearly. The constant threats against endangered species and critical habitat make many of our own daily activities seem so trivial.
