Wildlife Conservation Expeditions - Gap years, Years Out and Career Breaks - Greenforce

Description edit

Our work aims to ensure environmental and economic sustainability.

The inspiration for Greenforce came from the Earth summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. This was the first global recognition of the urgent need to preserve the diversity of life on earth, culminating in a resolve by each country present to survey their protected areas for biodiversity. Many countries committing to this pledge needed assistance with funding and personnel to complete these surveys: hence Greenforce was established in 1997 as an international research agency, offering free survey teams to those countries in need.

Since these early days Greenforce teams have expanded the remit to include resource assessments, population estimates and distribution mapping. Local communities based around our survey zones can use the information we gather to develop plans for sustainable usage of their environmental resources, thereby ensuring their traditional lifestyle can be maintained for generations to come.

Why we need YOU

Volunteers are the backbone of Greenforce. We need a constant supply of willing helpers to be the eyes and ears of the survey team as well as assisting the local people create an economically sustainable community. Our surveys span a number of years and can cover considerable areas of untouched wilderness. Volunteers can expect to visit regions where few, if any tourists have ever been, and to observe wildlife in its most natural, undisturbed state.
