Gunter Wilhelm, the man behind Gunter Wilhelm Cutlery has learned his craft well. For thirty years, he worked in the German cutlery industry. Fifteen of those were in Solingen, Germany as factory manager for a well-known German knife manufacturer. Gunter had an exciting concept for a new style of chefs’ knives, but his ideas were too advanced for the industry.
While on a vacation trip to China in 2002, he met and fell in love with a Chinese woman named Xin li, pronounced“ Shin Lee”. On that fateful trip, he also met American cutlery engineer/designer, Paul Hellman. Gunter was really impressed by Paul’s innovative cutlery designs and the two formed a partnership.
Gunter’s dream was to create a line of chefs’ knives and kitchen cutlery, superior in quality and craftsmanship to other German brands, at affordable prices. While in China, Gunter had the opportunity to buy a large cutlery factory in Yangjiang City, the cutlery capital of China. He purchased the factory and his dream of producing the highest-quality chef’s knives in the world became a reality.
