Description
GVRD.COM is a private initiative/effort, and is not Govt. funded, nor is it owned by or affiliated with the Greater Vancouver Regional District Municipal Authority of British Columbia or the Greater Vallejo Recreational District of California.
Some early Vancouver Historians say that in the early-mid 1900's the Greater Vancouver general area was often referred to as the "GVRD" for short. Later, in the 1960's, the B.C. Govt. decided to work towards a more centralized/co-operative form of regional government, and after approx. 2 years of planning, local Govt. entities formed the Greater Vancouver Regional District Municipal Authority, which is often referred to as "the GVRD" for short.
As a side note: The initials "GVRD" also have a long history in Vallejo California, which is an area around the North-East San Francisco Bay area. The Greater Vallejo Recreational District of California has been in operation since the 1940's.
