- Hackrag is a gamer blog, specializing in game news and culture, reviews, gadgets, industry stuff and random points of trivia of interest to both short attention spans and the um the other type of thingy.
Hackrag is a multi-user gamer blog, staffed by particularly hardcore gamers who have a passion for gaming news. We've started Hackrag to keep track of the cool industry stuff that we normally follow on the feeds anyway.
The founders of Hackrag are IT techies and writers who got to know each other in their staff jobs at Harvard. We're a mixed bag here, and have semi-journalistic backgrounds or real-world publishing experience. One of us has published at least five books on Redhat that you may have read.
Anyway, one day at lunch we realized that the smartest geeks we knew, with the most voracious appetite for learning and interest in the field, also happened to be gamers. We couldn't work out why some techies work with databases all day but aren't interested in games or even computers. We realized that games fed and nurtured our restless creativity as kids. The founding Hackrag bloggers grew up with Amigas, TRS-80s and through the early PC days until one day we realized: there are techies, and there are techies who know remember how freakin' amazing Starglider 2 was, or Elite and all it's wonderful yet tragically flawed sequels. Who have now and then quoted Duke Nukem 3d. Who battled the Cyberdemon via null cable on 486s, who were stunned when Quake first appeared. And cringed with shock when Constantine ripped out Garrett's eye in Thief.
Some of us just plain simply love their Wii. Hackrag is founded by a passion for this other, sometimes stigmatized art form that we tend to choose over more passive entertainment.
And that's it, really. We founded Hackrag because we know how to, we love the stuff we're writing about. That's a good enough start, don't you think?
