- Heidi Bowers-Dutra earned her degree in occupational therapy from Boston University in 1983 and began her career working at a regional spinal cord injury center at University Hospital in Boston. In 1985, she became the Clinical Specialist for Hand Therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was involved in multiple research projects, including early motion programs for flexor tendon repairs and MCP arthroplasties. In 1985 she established the Hand Therapy Program at University of Massachusetts Medical Center. She directed that program until 1990 when she became the Clinical Hand Therapy Specialist at Northridge Hospital in Northridge, California. Heidi joined Hand Rehabilitation Specialists in 1992 and she is now the co-director/co-owner with Laurie Roundtree. One of the first Certified Hand Therapists in the country, Heidi is a charter member of the American Society of Hand Therapists. She is a contributing author to the American Society of Hand Therapists Treatment Guidelines and has presented poster sessions at the annual ASHT meetings. Heidi has also lectured nationally on various upper extremity topics.
