Hastings & Rye Conservatives
Description
The Association plays an active role in Hastings and Rye politics and also organises a programme of social and political events for its members, supporters and friends. The Association operates in broadly three dimensions - political, fundraising and membership.
We hold four of the 10 County Council divisions in Hastings and Rye - and all four are members of the eight-strong East Sussex County Council Cabinet. There are now 13 Conservative Hastings Borough Councillors (since June 2004) and four Conservative Rother District Councillors.
This kind of political influence is vital when we have a government with such a large majority. Conservatives across the Hastings & Rye constituency are keen supporters of local regeneration and are concerned to ensure that Government promises are translated into action. In particular Conservative councillors, at borough, district and county level, continue to fight for significant improvements in the road and rail infrastructure which have prevented serious outward investment in the area. The Labour Government’s cancellation of the Hastings Bypass in 2001, after many promises and expensive consultations, has been a bitter blow to local residents.
