Hawaii Calls®, Inc.(HCI) is a diversified private corporation, held by Don McDiarmid Jr., and based in Aiea, Hawaii. In the 1950s, Don McDiarmid Jr. incorporated his newly formed company as Hula Records®, Inc. Hula Records® had been a sole proprietorship record label since 1947 under Don McDiarmid Sr.
Hula Records®, Inc. (now Hawaii Calls®, Inc., d/b/a Hula Records®) offers the oldest and largest catalog of Hawaiian music in the Hawaiian music industry. It is the backbone of Hawaii Calls®, Inc. It also has wholly owned subsidiaries, Kona-Kai Distributing Co., Ahi Paka®, and Travel-Lite®. They manufacture and distribute Hawaiian and international resort gifts and golf accessories.
Hawaii Calls, Inc. traces its origin to July 3, 1935 when the first Hawaii Calls radio program was broadcast from the Moana Hotel on the beach at Waikiki. Hawaii Calls, created and hosted by Island radio pioneer Webley Edwards, successfully showcased top Hawaiian music and artists. In its heyday, the show was heard on over 600 radio stations in North America and scores of other stations in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, South America Africa and on Armed Forces Radio throughout the world.
