This site is intended to be a valuable resource for helping health care professionals teach health education to those patients with limited English skills. By leveraging the combined skills and experience of 3 of Central Ohio's largest health care organizations, this project will produce some of the most valuable resources for health care education in diverse communities.

Please continue to check this site as more materials become available. We welcome and encourage comments and suggestions.

Lifecycle of a Health Information Translations Education Document:

1. Once a topic is selected for development, the project assistant pulls the available materials from the inventories of the three partnering health systems on that topic and a draft of the combined content is produced.

2. An initial review is done by at least one of the education specialists to streamline the content and adjust content flow. The project assistant drafts the changes and does a readability level using the Fry Formula.

3. The project team edits to further simplify the content, focusing on overall flow of the document and readability. Any illustrations needed are identified and secured.

4. The material is sent to a clinical expert for another review to be certain key points were not omitted and to check that the content is correct.

5. The clinician review comments are reviewed by the project team and incorporated as appropriate.

6. Illustrations are added if applicable and then the document text is sent for translation.

7. Translated documents are returned and loaded on the website for access.

8. Documents will be reviewed and updated at least every three years to maintain currency of content.

About the Translations

A contracted service is used for all the materials translated for the Partnership project. Materials for this project are translated from English to the foreign language, retranslated, edited and proofread by different individuals as a quality control standard.

Translators, editors and proofreaders used for this project are required by the contract service to have:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in the field or specialty they are translating.
  • If they are from outside the US, they must have a translation certification. Those within the US must show completion of translation training in particular language(s).
  • If these minimum qualifications are met, they undergo linguistic testing and training. Only those who are able to test out at 8.5 or higher on a scale of 1-10 are considered suitable for working on documents.
