FRx Software traces its roots back to 1989 when its first product was developed and commercialized. At that time, the goal of the company was to create a feature-rich product that empowered financial professionals to develop financial reports rather than requiring them to enlist the services of programmers or Information Technology resources. Platinum Software and IBM Corporation were FRx Software's first customers, as well as the company's exclusive distributors for its initial product.
In 1993, Platinum Software purchased FRx Software and became its exclusive distributor until it divested the company in 1994. Later that year, FRx Software was re-founded and set out to establish more than 30 strategic partner-distributor relationships, most of which are still active. In March 2000, the company was acquired by one of its strategic partners, Great Plains Software. In April 2001, Microsoft Corporation, the largest software company in the world, acquired Great Plains and FRx Software, while at the same time, FRx Software acquired ebudgets.com.
