April 4th - Some time ago, a trio of somewhat respectable gentlemen were suddenly struck by visions of the masses feverishly organizing and sharing their photos. In late December 2004, from their nicely furnished one bedroom laboratory based within the deep dark recesses of Arlington, MA, they unleashed HeyPix! upon the world.
Today, just 4 months after launch, we're excited to announce that CNET Networks has acquired Windup Labs, the creators of HeyPix!. Basically, in a nutshell, HeyPix! is becoming part of the CNET Networks family and more specifically, part of Webshots and its 20 million member photo sharing community. We'll be giving Webshots a shot in the arm (no steroids involved) as they grow like crazy.
This acquisition by CNET will give us the resources to develop more cutting edge features and stretch the boundaries of photo sharing on the web. A few features that we have waiting in the batter's box include rich blog posting tools and enhanced social networking capabilities. But as of today, we are stopping new registrations on HeyPix!. Over the next few months, we'll be working insanely hard to enhance Webshots with what you found great about HeyPix!. When we're ready, we'll seamlessly migrate all existing users over to Webshots.
