Description

Hira School was reviewed in 2003 by the New Zealand Education Review Office. The Following is a quote from that review report.

“ Hira School is a small rural contributing primary school situated near Nelson. It continues to be the hub of its wider community and a warm family atmosphere is maintained by school personnel. Each year, adult education courses are offered in a range of subjects chosen in response to local interests. The school has also been active in its support of preschool education. These activities enhance community partnership and facilitate transition to school. Recently Hira School has received recognition in a national competition for small rural schools. It has also won regional awards for its contribution to environmental education.”

Hira School is a co-educational state contributing primary school, situated in a beautiful valley (once known as Happy Valley) 15 minutes north of Nelson. The school opened officially in 1872.
