About HistoricalCaps.net

"The cap maketh the man" or woman! Wonderful hats and caps worn through the ages. From the Wars of the Roses to the bloody field of Culloden. I started this company about 3 yeas ago after supplying hats and caps to my re-enactment Society, The Sealed Knot.

I have been a knitter most of my life and saw a gap in the market for good quality authentic historical knitted hats. I decided to use only British wool for my headwear, paying particular attention to the rare breeds. I then started my website and since that time I have had many orders from re-enactment societies throughout the world.

My best seller is the original Scots bonnet, which had been worn in Scotland for many centuries. After the battle of Culloden this item became less well know as it was replaced in favour of the 'Tam 'O' Shanter. The Scots bonnet is a wonderful item of clothing. It keeps the rain out and the sun from the eyes and is warm and comfortable to wear. I had a comment on my guest book that they should be worn today and I can't agree more. I should be worn as you would a flat cap, in other words pulled forward at the front, in fact it was the forerunner of the modern flat cap!

I also create a number of other historical caps fromt the 14th to the 20th century which I base on accurate records of the periods. My latest caps are WW2 knitted Comfort for the Troops hats and the Crimean war infantry Kilmarnock/Forage cap.

I use quite a bit of wool in my bonnets and caps and felt them to make them weatherproof.
