Description

Højskolen Østersøen was founded on August 1st 1993 under the Danish folkhighschool legislation. The school is an independent institution, a free-school, with a broad representation in its board, which includes both representatives of the Danish business-community as well as the Danish cultural-community.

A folk high school is a boarding school for adults who want to participate in a course of 2, 4, or 6 months duration. Classes of intensive German language and culture studies as well as a number of subjects aimed to enhance the students ability to engage fully in life in all its aspects are offered. The school offers two annual courses of three or four months duration. One half of the staff of teachers are German citizens and the other half are Danish citizens.

The main aim of Højskolen Østersøen is to be a folkhighschool capable of enhancing the students abilities in his or her future working life, being in Denmark or Germany, while at the same time maintaining the ideas of the traditional Danish folk high school movement, which is generally aimed more at qualifying the students individual outlook on life. Højskolen Østersøen’s aim is to focus on both.
