As early as 1917, one third of the revenue of the company ensued from export business. By the year 1924, the units of the company were processing more than one million hogs. World’s first canned ham was developed by the company in 1926. The company developed a sales distribution networks on regular routes relying on sausage trucks owned by the company. By 1933, the company had more than 14 distribution centers across the United States. Apart from an array of products, the world-renowned SPAM luncheon meat was introduced by the company in the year 1937, producing the one billionth can of the product in 1959. In 1982, the company opened a new production facility built in a 1,089,000 square-foot area with the latest technical implants for production. In 1986, the company acquired Jennie-O Foods. Consecutively in three years between 2001 and 2003, Forbes named the company as one of the 400 best companies of America. The company changed its name from Geo. A. Hormel & Company to Hormel Foods Corporation in 1993.
