Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS): Welcome

Description

Excerpted from the website description:

The Mission of the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) is to: 1) strengthen the national Security of the United States by providing graduate-level educational programs that meet the immediate and long-term leadership needs of organizations responsible for Homeland Defense and Security; 2) Advance the study of Homeland Security as a substantive field of research, scholarship, and professional discipline that can contribute meaningfully to enhancing security while preserving liberty; 3) Partner with other universities to share the MA curriculum and assist them in developing their own Homeland Security programs. This increases the number and diversity of students enrolled in such programs. Universities can take advantage of the DHS investment in the CHDS curriculum and avoid “reinventing the wheel;” Develop a cadre of local, state, and federal leasers who share substantive skills in analysis, interpretation, strategy and policy development, and administration of approved policy. The Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) offers a variety of graduate, executive, and certificate programs designed to build leadership needed to prevent, deter, and respond to terrorist attacks in the U.S., as well as to enhance interagency and civil-military cooperation and communication. Courses are taught by experts at NPS, practitioners and leaders who understand the practical land policy problems that participants confront, as well as by distinguished guest lecturers from academic, research, and private sectors. Each program supports and complements other Homeland Security training, education, and exercise activities sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office for Grants and Training (G&T). Programs include the Master of Arts Degree in Security Studies (Homeland Security and Defense); the Homeland Security Executive Leadership Program; Mobile Education Teams (MET program); the University and Agency Partnership Initiative; online courses; the Homeland Security Digital Library; and Homeland Security Affairs, the online quarterly journal of the Center for Homeland Defense and Security.
