The Humane Society of the United States edit
The Human Society of the United States (HSUS), founded in 1953, works to create a more humane and sustainable world for all animals. Their mission state is "Celebrating Animals, Confronting Cruelty."
HSUS provides standards, training programs, support and national conferences for local humane societies across the country. The Humane Society of the United States advocates sensible public policies regarding animal treatment for both domestics animals and wildlife, as well as working to enforce exiting laws. In addition, the organization combats (both nationally and internationally) things that they view as cruelty such as dog/cock fighting, inhumane hunting practices, puppy mills, and inhumane conditions of livestock in factory farms.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)'s website--both HumaneSociety.org and HSUS.org--offers ways to connect with your local humane society, tips for adopting a pet, news, additional information about legislation and HSUS campaigns to halt animal cruelty, ways to donate and even a store.
