HYPO

Description

The parent bank of Hypo Alpe-Adria-Group was established in Klagenfurt, Austria in 1896. In the early 1990s, it began to expand its business in neighbouring countries, starting with northern Italy. In 1994, it entered the Croatian market by launching a leasing operation as part of Hypo-Leasing Kroatien d.o.o. In 1996, Hypo Bank Kroatien d.d. was founded – three years later it changed its name into Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank d.d. in line with a group decision – and was followed by sister firms:

Over the nine years of its presence in Croatia, Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank d.d. positioned itself as a reliable and inevitable financial partner, by developing a network of branches and outlets in all major centres of central Croatia, as well as in Istria and Kvarner region and Dalmatia. The Bank covered the area of eastern Croatia by merging Hypo Alpe-Adria Group with Slavonska Banka d.d. Osijek.

Since its very foundation, the business operations of Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank d.d. have earned it the image of a dynamic, modern bank that was among the pioneer Croatian banks in early 1990s to embark on long-term lending to business entities, gaining prominence in particular through its readiness to invest in tourist and infrastructure projects of local governments and self-administration. We were the first financial institution to have issued our own kuna-denominated bonds (worth 150 million kuna). In addition, we were the agent and lead arranger of a municipal bond issue of the City of Zadar. It is worth pointing out that, as part of the dynamic development, the Bank also participated in the 350 million kuna sovereign bond issue maturing in 2015. The success of our HI-Cash money market fund, that won the “Golden Unit” award as the best investment fund in its category in 2004 and the 2005 tripling of the assets of our HI-Funds compared to a year earlier is noteworthy too.
