Iligan history goes back four centuries ago before Legaspi’s expedition reached in the Philippines in 1565. It began in Island Kingdom of Panglao, southwest coast of Bohol. At that time the island of Bohol was covered with virgin forest with two villages. Panglao was the trading center. According to Father Francisco Combes, Jesuit historian, relates that an ambassador from the King of Ternate caused the war (Ternate in Mollucas) which forced the islanders to abandon Panglao, to Dapitan.
