Description

I am a long-term internerd. Tiara.org has been around in one form or another since 1995, and has weathered the rise and fall of personal homepages, online journals, and now blogs. Since everyone in my field (internet studies) has a blog, and since I spend many mental cycles dorking out about tech, I scrapped the ancient version of tiara that hadn’t been updated since, uh, 2002 and here we are.

I am currently a PhD student in the Department of Culture and Communication at New York University. Broadly, I study social technology. I have an MA in Communication from the University of Washington; my MA thesis is “Selling Your Self: Identity Online in the Age of a Commodified Internet.” My BA is from Wellesley College, where I ostensibly got a double degree in Women’s Studies and Political Science, but looking back all I remember was screwing around with my friends and watching a lot of soap operas (resistive readings!).

My academic work is generally around issues of self, identity, and embodiment. My MA thesis explored these ideas in the context of commercialized internet spaces.
