IGEM RAS

Description

Main directions of fundamental researches of IGEM, that has got its present status in 1955, had been inherited from several former institutions of USSR Academy of Sciences: Petrographic (PETRIN), Mineralogical (MIN) and Geochemical Institutes, which were established in 1930 on the base of former Geological/Mineralogical Museum of Russian Academy of Sciences. Before their transfer from Leningrad to Moscow in 1934, MIN and Geochemical Institutes had been united to form LIGEM (Lomonosov Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Crystallography) that was headed by Academician A.E.Fersmann who was before the Director of MIN and of Geochemical Institute. In 1937, LIGEM, PETRIN and recently (in 1930) established GIN were included into united Institute of Geological Sciences (IGN) that was active until 1955. On separation of the last Institute into two successors, IGEM and GIN, the former has got petrographic, mineralogical, geochemical departments as well as mineral deposits department (established in 1938) and analytical laboratories and groups. Crystallography division of the Institute, that has been formed in LIGEM in 1935, was transformed first (in 1937) into a separate laboratory and later - into the Institute of Crystallography (in 1948). IGN was also a source for foundation of three other institutions: the Institute of Volcanology (that was transferred to Petropavlovsk-on-Kamchatka in 1948), the Institute of Mineralogy, Crystal-Chemistry and Geochemistry of Rare Elements (IMGRE) in 1952, and the Institute of Experimental Mineralogy (IEM in Chernogolovka, Moscow region, 1969). The last one was founded by the members of laboratory of metasomatism and metamorphism of IGN.

1995:D. Sc. (in Geology and Mineralogy) Institute of Geology of Ore Deposits, Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences. Thesis: A Paragenetical Analysis of Mineral Assemblages in Ores of Hydrothermal Deposits of Base and Precious Metals.

1996 - present. Head of Laboratory of Mineralogy at Institute of Ore Deposits, Petrography, Mineralogy, and Geochemistry (I.G.E.M.), Russian Academy of Sciences.
