IGRIN first started business on July 4th, 1995, operating as a local presence for IHUG (The Internet Home Users Group), in Whangarei. IGRIN stood for, and still stands for, the 'Internet GRoup In Northland' and offered Internet access with a local feel and local people from it’s base in the Tai Tokerau building, Hunt St. central Whangarei.
It was only a short time until the inevitable happened, and IGRIN split away from its parent company IHUG becoming an ISP in its own right. Simultaneously, IGRIN moved to its new premises at 25 Manse Street, and went under new management in June 1996. IGRIN quickly branched out, and began to offer it's services throughout the north, including Kaikohe, Kerikeri, Kaitaia, Dargaville and Auckland, as well as becoming more involved in web design and hosting.
