The investments made in Science and Technology infrastructure since 1947 are now making an impact on the Indian scene. Consequently the transition to a market economy has been very smooth. The emergence of India as an IT global hub, quick adaptation to the emerging area of Biotechnology, use of IT in the Banking and Communication sectors, advances in Space technology are just a few examples. This website captures some of these events in a continual manner. The obvious impact of S and T in terms of economic and social development is also covered. The web site contains 13 Channels which are updated frequently. Agriculture news is updated on a regular basis. A new channel devoted to Information and Communication technologies for development (ICT4D) has been added. Individuals as well as Institutions in India or USA are invited to send information regarding conferences/workshops and any press releases for publications along with the URL. This web site was created by Dr. M. A. Pai, Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL-61801 as a non-profit initiative. Prior to joining UIUC in 1981, he was on the faculty of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India from 1963-1981 and Dean of Research & Development from 1976-1978. A recipient of the Bhatnagar award in 1974, Prof. Pai is a fellow of IEEE, INSA, IAS & INAE.

He got his B.E. degree from Univ. of Madras in 1953 , M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from U.C., Berkeley in 1958 and 1961 respectively. He worked in Bombay Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking from 1953-57. He taught at U.C., Berkeley and UCLA in 1961-62 and 1962-63 respectively before returning to India in 1963. He was involved with the Electric Power Sector in the area of computer applications for system studies and control. He is the author of seven books and several technical papers.
