- Vina Hutchinson Farmer moved to the Carolina coast 17 years ago, wandering her way through several coastal and historic North Carolina towns before moving to New Bern in 1998. A native of Kentucky raised in West Virginia, she graduated from Marshall University (home of the Thundering Herd!) in 1988 with degrees in history and journalism. Vina is the Grants Coordinator for Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens. She also serves as a freelance editor of the Historic New Bern Herald. In addition to her work on The Insiders' Guide® to the Central Coast and New Bern, Vina is the author of Images of America: New Bern and New Bern: Then & Now. Her books and her work with the Herald have been recognized with awards by the North Carolina Society of Historians. Vina is a member of the Leadership Craven Class of 2006 and her volunteer work includes serving as an ambassador for the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce and on the New Bern Historical Society's Ghostwalk Committee. When not tackling yet another project in the renovation of her Ghent neighborhood home, she enjoys reading, writing personal essays and short fiction, and "blogging."
