About Us
Greetings, my name is John Calhoun, and I am the principal owner of Iowa Grandparents. Iowa Grandparents is a family owned business that includes my wife, Beth, and daughters, Angie and Amy. I have been a strong advocate for children during my career and want to continue that through my work with Iowa Grandparents.
The inspiration for Iowa Grandparents came from Governor Vilsack and Principal Financial Group CEO Barry Griswell. Governor Vilsack appointed me to the Iowa Learns Council and asked me to be team leader for the early childhood team. I was also part of the steering committee of that Council. Governor Vilsack had challenged the Learns Council “to do something else to advance the cause of early childhood” and Mr. Griswell, in a presentation to Child Care Congress, had given an inspirational presentation about the importance of early childhood development as a business issue and the impact that being a “Grandparent” has had on his life. I want to thank both of these men for the positive impact they have had on my life and the lives of children and families in the State of Iowa.
