IPRIA was established in 2002 with generous funding from IP Australia, the federal government agency responsible for the granting of rights in patents, trade marks and designs. That funding is part of the $3 billion Innovation Statement, Backing Australia's Ability, that underscores the Government's commitment to improving Australian business innovation.
Additional funding has also been provided by the Victorian State Government under its Science, Technology and Innovation initiatives, and by the University of Melbourne.
