- "I started working for Ithaca Gun in 1971 shortly after the company had been sold to General Recreation. The company had been founded and run by the Smith family up until that time, but the manufacturing plant was becoming obsolete and needed a large infusion of cash to modernize...I became aware of just how obsolete our plant was when I saw photographs of the Perazzi and SKB factories. I didn't know what all the machines were, but I did notice there were no pile of speedy-dry on the floors to catch leaking oil and coolant...[describes the succession of owners and how modernization of the manufacturing facility did not occur]...Unfortunately, we didn't have the equipment to make a profit at the price we were selling guns. When we ran out of both money and credit, the company went bankrupt."
