The Jain Meditation International Center, a non-profiit educational organization, in effect started when the founder, Gurudev Shree Chitrabhanuji as a Jain monk, accepted an invitation of The Temple of Understanding to address a Spiritual Summit Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. And then at the Harvard Divinity School, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1971 by invitation of the Dean while in Geneva.
Subsequently he accepted invitations to teach in America. Giving up his cloistered life and his position of authority in India, he chose to carry his universal message of non-violence and Reverence for All Life to the larger family of mankind as a global citizen and a spiritual adviser with his in-depth knowledge of ancient and modern scriptures, including Sanskrit, Hindi, Gujarati and English, of all faiths in the world. Author of over 25 books, he reflects his philosophy of world peace, the need to appreciate the sanctity of all life and to build unity in diversity among all man-kind in everyday living – and starting with oneself.
Gurudev ’s schedule of lectures and events during the summer when he is in America include talks on certain Wednesdays in New York City and on weekends at various centers and institutions throughout the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. He speaks directly to the problems and frustrations of a complicated and materialistic society in lucid language and eloquent speech. A favorite quote is:
