If you are anything like me, excessive reading can be quite boring. So I will make this as quick and to the point as possible. I love doing what I do, and I have a blast doing it. I think it is quite a privilege to ride such incredible animals, and I hate seeing people so frustrated with their horse that the fun of horse ownership has faded away.
Have you ever worked in an office with people you just despise? It makes the work atmosphere so miserable. You don't accomplish as much as you would like, because you are to busy plotting a way to get your co-worker to stop slurping his coffee so loudly.
This is exactly what I see in a lot of horse and rider partnerships. The rider gets frustrated at the horse. The horse gets mad at the rider. The rider's face turns bright red with anger. From that point on everything is downhill. STOP! When I see a student do this with their horse, I ask them to dismount. I then ask them to hop on a bicycle and take a few laps around the farm.
