an Rutgers has been designing kitchens and baths for 18 years. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from the University of Alberta. Throughout her career she has updated her education by attending many National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) courses and seminars. She is both a Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD) and Certified Bath Designer (CBD). She is currently working toward her Certified Master Kitchen & Bathroom Designer (CMKBD) accreditation.
Certified Kitchen Designers (CKDs) and Certified Bathroom Designers (CBDs) specialize in the design, planning, and execution of kitchens, bathrooms, and other built-in units throughout the home. Only a select group of expert designers attain the CKD and/or CBD designations, which are not mandatory for practicing kitchen design.
Because of their specialized training, CKDs and CBDs hold a distinct place in the interior design profession. Similar to general interior designers, CKDs and CBDs must meet common core educational requirements, adhere to various legal restrictions and regulations, and follow a professional code of ethics. But their focus on kitchens and bathrooms uniquely qualifies them to handle the technical planning and design of these often complicated, very personal spaces.
