Title edit
Jane Selkirk Traditional Hand Painted Canalware Canal Ware, Buckby cans Watering cans Dippers
Description edit
Jane first encountered the traditional art of 'Roses and Castles' when she and her family lived aboard narrowboat 'Arcady'. Although trained in watercolour painting, she inevitably had to attempt this brightly coloured and highly decorative art form. Jane saw the Knobstick style of canal decoration at one of England's canal museums and immediately fell in love.
With the advent of secondary school for her two sons, Jane and her family bought the derelict former Blacksmiths and Workshops at Claydon Top Lock on the South Oxford canal. After years of practice and research, she now has her own workshop at the Old Smithy, where customers can purchase, browse, order, or just have a chat and watch her painting.
Her particular style of roses have been featured in several journals including Waterways World and Country Magazine. Jane is an accredited member of the Waterways Craft Guild at Journeyman level, tutors for the I.W.A at the national rallies and she is a regular exhibitor at Crick Boat Show.
