A little about my background
Although we maintained a 'tidy' garden it was not until my wife and I met an elderly lady in the 1970's that I was really converted. She had been gardening on the same small plot for 40 years and what I saw made me realize what could be accomplished in any garden, whatever the size.
As you can see from the photograph she had produced an impressive herbaceous border. Although not the low maintenance 'year round interest' garden most of us want today, it opened my eyes to the choices and opportunities presented by the average garden plot. Her enthusiasm and encouragement led me to develop a keen interest in plants and gardens.
In 1993 I trained as a designer at the English Gardening School, Chelsea and I have been designing gardens in the South Manchester and Cheshire area ever since.
