Understanding Prayer.
There is absolutely no point in praying to a God who is not the creator because such a God would not have the authority or the ability to do anything to bring about the things we pray for. Better to have a God who has the authority and the ability to answer prayer, and leave us puzzled, than a God who we can have no realistic expectation of answers from. We cannot, pray that God will reduce the sinfulness of sin, or do away with hell. We cannot pray that he will act against to his character and against his law. We cannot pray that he will change the rules. We cannot pray that he will provide a way of salvation other than the way he has provided. He will not open a back door to heaven through which we may enter. He has his plan for our salvation through Christ and the establishment of his eternal kingdom, this cannot be changed. In other area’s God's control is seen in his ability to take hold of people and actions that are in direct opposition to his will and use those people and actions to his will and purpose. It is reasonable and right to pray for God's help in the presence of suffering, with the expectation that he can and will do something to relieve our suffering in some way or other. We can expect him to use suffering for our good and for his glory, we can expect him to limit our suffering to what we can bear, and to rescue us from the suffering before it becomes too much for us to bear, for that he has also promised. We can pray that he will change our circumstances, according to his will. God will only listen to those of us who approach through His Son Jesus Christ with the understanding of his sinless life. Most of all an understanding of the death upon the cross and the resurrection on the third day. Do you believe in this one true God? Do you approach him 'in Jesus' name. Do you leave the answer in his hands? Do you trust in his goodness towards you? The promise of an eternal life with God is what attracts most people to God. He makes it so clear in all his word. Many references to the coming and life of Jesus can be found through the Old Testament. Prayer is our communication with God.
