Description
Laurie is an author, columnist and speaker on Humorous and Joyful Parenting. Her column, “Joyful Parenting,” appears in the Florida publications Happy Times Monthly, and The Happy Herald. Her column, “The Joyful Parent”, appears in the Colleyville Journal in Colleyville, Texas. She is a regular contributer to several newsletters, journals, newspapers and magazines. Laurie’s first book, The Ten Commandments of Holistic Parenting, was well received and her next book, How To Handle Your Cranky and Stressed-Out Parents: A Guide for Teens, is due out later this year. She is a guest lecturer at North Lake College in Irving, Texas and a member of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists (click: NSNC). Laurie has given several presentations on humorous parenting, most recently for the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (click: AATH) conference in San Francisco.
Laurie knew she was destined to write and speak about parenting after an impassioned letter of hers was read on air at the beginning of a parenting segment on the TV news magazine show: 20/20. Laurie is also active as a freelance writer and reporter for the Sierra Club of Dallas and the Lakewood People newspaper in Dallas, Texas.
Laurie is a professional violist and plays in orchestras all over Texas. She is the orchestra director at a large private high school in Dallas, and maintains a private studio of violin and viola students. Laurie is speaks three languages and taught Spanish and German in the Norwalk, CT public school system. She has degrees in German, Education, Music History, and nearly completed a Doctor of Arts degree in Musicology and Viola Performance.
