Think of Reconstructionism as a bridge between Jewish tradition of old and contemporary Jewish life. We are a grass-roots movement of people who wish to sustain the vibrant life of Judaism and to experience the richness of the treasury of Jewish tradition. Reconstructionism is more than a philosophy, it is a spirited reality more easily seen and felt than described. A Reconstructionist approach to Jewish life produces our unique style of warmth and intimacy that encourages Jews in ever increasing numbers to join Reconstructionist congregations.

Reconstructionists come from varied walks of life and backgrounds. While some are new to Jewish commitment, others hail from traditional homes and synagogues. Many, too often excluded from synagogue life, find a warm welcome in Reconstructionist congregations. Reconstructionists share a commitment to make Judaism their own by finding in it joy, meaning, and ideas they can believe. They wish to belong to caring communities of liberal Jews who take their Judaism seriously.

Reconstructionist rabbis receive their training at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College (RRC). Our rabbis are educated to draw from the best resources of our tradition as well as those of contemporary civilization. Their strong academic preparation in Jewish learning serves our congregations well, as Reconstructionist congregations are democratic communities featuring rabbinic - lay partnership in decision making.
