About the Society

The C.G. Jung Society of Ottawa was founded in May 1979 by individuals who wished to encourage regular discussion of Jung's ideas. The society meets monthly (except in summer) for lectures, workshops, occasional small study groups, Riddell Library Open House brunches, and other social gatherings.

Local Jungian analysts address the society on Jung's ideas from time to time. Other well-known presenters are Jungian analysts, scholars, and experts in related subjects, known nationally and internationally. Past speakers include recognized authors such as Kathrin Asper, John Beebe, John Dourley, James Hillman, James Hollis, Stephan Hoeller, Mario Jacoby, Gilles Quispel, Daryl Sharp, Ann and Barry Ulanov, Marion Woodman, and more . . .

Subjects addressed include basic issues in Jungian psychology, as well as related topics such as addiction, alchemy, anima/animus, anthropology, archetypes, art, astrology, betrayal, body/mind work, charisma, dream interpretation, East-West understanding, fairy tale interpretation, the feminine, gnosticism, God, gods and goddesses, human relationships, the Chinese I Ching, immunology, labyrinth, loss, mandalas, masculine and feminine issues, mythology, nature, political/religious bonding, psyche and soul or psychology and religion, relationships, sandplay, selfishness, shamans, transformation, trickster, typology, and more. (Jungian critics have also been given a voice).
