The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is one of the most ruthless terrorist organisations in the world. The most visible recent example of this was the assassination by the LTTE of the well respected Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka Hon. Lakshman Kadirgamar on 12 August 2005.
This has been condemned around the world by most right-thinking people and governments. The European Union has as a consequence banned the travel to Europe of LTTE cadres. The British Prime Minister in turn banned the LTTE front organisation TRO (Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation) operating in the UK.
Harsh new measures have been brought in by Western countries to combat the terrorism they face. The whole Western world thus reacted instantaneously and angrily when suicide bombers attacked several of its own cities.
