Katsu Designs embodies the creative work of two Texas artists, Kathy Martinson and Jerry Hartung. Their combination of wit, skill, and humor results in the highly refined and diverse imagery that they bring to life. Their night lights and wall lamps are colorful wall ornaments by day and animated silhouettes by night. Described as contemporary narrative, Katsu Designs lights are at once functional, atmospheric, ornamental and sculptural.
Each piece handcrafted from aluminum and detailed with a wealth of materials such as acrylic, paint, glass, and wood. All Katsu Designs lights are designed then assembled by hand with simple tools and extreme care. Their studio is located in the heart of Texas in the city of Austin.
Kathy was chosen by members of the American Craft Council to be one of the six jurors on the 2004 selection committee in the area of multi-media. This committee is responsible for selecting the artists for the ACC show in Baltimore Maryland.
