Description
A Brief Bio
My name is Kathryn Petro Harper. I live in Santa Clara, California. In my first career I was a librarian at Syracuse University Library, which is located in my hometown. (I earned my B.A. from SUNY Oswego.) After moving to Austin, Texas, I pursued my dream of helping people manifest their potential as fully as possible. I studied human services and counseling at St. Edward’s University and, after a 2000 hour internship and an exam, earned my license to be a professional counselor. Life is transient, though, and the move to California inspired a professional metamorphosis. I now work in the non-profit sector. It is a privilege to be of service to people. I believe passionately in the innate creativity of all humans and that education is key to a full life. My mission is to inspire enthusiasm in people for lifetime learning and to strengthen communities. At this time I work as an Americorps member at Hands On Bay Area developing new community projects. I also support public libraries and literacy programs.
I am married to a geek and live with two cats. We all share a house and have negotiated territory in a fair manner — they have run of the house in which to shed and regurgitate hairballs, and we humans get the bedroom as a cat-free zone. They are spoiled rotten. Wherever I go, I am rarely without reading material; my taste runs the gamut of nonfiction and literature. If you’re really curious, you can browse my entire library. I also write a fair amount, mostly creative non-fiction and poetry. Music feeds my soul too, although my talent is as an appreciator and not a performer. I recently learned to knit and am addicted to it. I like walking, biking, and yoga. In recent years I’ve started making art, such as collage, painting, mosaic, and photography. And I can always be persuaded to play board games, savor a good meal, or dance.
Other trivia about me: I’m a night-owl. I believed in Santa until I was 11. I grew up terrified of dogs, thunderstorms, and spiders. I have a sweet tooth. I’m left-handed (except for eating and using scissors). I can wiggle my ears, too.
