KeySpan
KeySpan is a provider services related to energy in the Northeast U.S. The company ranks in the S & P 500 and is one of the largest natural gas distributors in the country. It is the largest distributor in the Northeast, with more than 2 million gas customers. KeySpan supplies one quarter of all power in New York City. In addition to gas distribution, it also maintains much of the transportation, production and storage operation for its natural gas. KeySpan maintains three headquarters in New England, located in Long Island, Boston and Brooklyn.
History
A 1998 merger between branches of the Long Island Lighting Company, Brooklyn Union Gas and the KeySpan Energy Corporation resulted in the formation of KeySpan Corporation. The company has continued to expand since that time, and in 2000 it acquired Eastern Enterprises, giving KeySpan several New England gas utility companies.

KeySpan is a conglomerate composed of over 100 energy provider companies. The utility companies comprise unregulated subsidiary service companies as well as regulated utility companies that provide both gas and electric services.
