The Rugs are made from the finest quality Tibetan wool. Because of the high altitude at which Tibetan sheep are raised, the wool has a higher "Lanolin oil" content. This becomes very important when the wool is dyed, either chemically or naturally. The high lanolin content not only absorbs the dye better but also gives Tibetan rugs an unequalled richness in texture and appearance. The method of hand - carding, hand spinning of the yarn are employed in every Khangkyil Rug made today.
Made of 100% wool, every Khangkyil Rug is hand woven and hand scissored, with most rugs taking an average of 3 to 4 people several weeks to complete. This method dates back to the 11th century.
