She received her bachelor's degree at Michigan State University, and Master's Degree at Wayne State University, having been awarded a Graduate Assistantship. She has three children of her own. Nancy is highly regarded as an expert in her specialized field of apraxia of speech, and consults with parents and professionals the world over. The Applied Verbal Behavior Program (AVB) has recently adopted the Kaufman Approach into their protocol for children on the spectrum of autism. The KCC is also becoming well known for their work with autism, PDD, auditory-linguistic processing challenges, and sensory integrative challenges in children. The Kaufman Children's Center for Speech, Language, and Sensory Disorders, Inc. was the recipient of the 2001 Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Clinical Service Award.

The KCC houses a staff of talented speech language pathologists, occupational therapists, a literacy specialist and a child psychologist. Each professional is certified accordingly by either the American Speech Language Hearing Association or the American Occupational Therapy Association.

Carol has an avid interest in providing speech, language and social communication intervention to all children, but particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. She especially enjoys teaching each family how to work/play with their child in their home. Carol has experienced extensive training in strategies and protocols found to be effective in helping children learn, as indicated by receiving eleven ACES for continuing education from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association. Carol is a board certified behavior analyst, she has achieved Instructor Certification in the LINKS to Language language intervention program, and is a certified Hanen speech-language pathologist. She uses and teaches parents to use techniques of applied verbal behavior (AVB) / verbal analysis (ABA), visual strategies, play, social skills, picture exchanges, social stories, the principles of sensory processing, direct teaching, and oral-motor/motor-speech hierarchies when working with children. Carol received her B.A. in Sociology and her M.A. in Speech and Hearing from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She received an Educational Specialist Certificate in Communication Disorders from Wayne State University. She has provided intervention in schools, private agencies, federally funded programs, and private clinics. Carol is also a member of and on the board of the Autism Society of Michigan.
