King’s Outdoor World was first conceived back in 1990. After drawing pencil sketches of big bucks and bulls, the thought of re-creating them in photographic form was still very primitive. In fact, Robert King, founder of King's Outdoor World, hated the thought of using computers. The only thing that he hated more was the thought of doing anything else in life that would keep him away from the outdoors.
A computer was purchased. It was an IBM compatible using the DOS operating system. After a few months on that system, he decided it was not going to take him in the direction he wanted.
Knowing that the art world was fiercely competitive, ideas and concepts were soon taking shape. After meeting a very talented traditional graphic artist, he introduced Robert to the Macintosh computer and some new software that had just hit the market. After seeing what some of the possibilities were, the excitement started to grow. Robert looked into many college courses that would enhance his talents as a graphic artist. The problem back then was that computer graphic arts were very new to the world as a whole. Colleges didn’t have programs in line yet. Still determined to go after his dream, the four hours before work and the four to five hours at night learning on his own were now starting to pay off.
