- The Kiwanda Surf Company first opened its doors for business in May 2003 in Pacific City Oregon. Kiwanda Surf Co. is owned and operated by Joel Talbert. The store was created as a result of Joel’s passion for the ocean and surfing. He grew up surfing the beaches of sunny Southern California and first came to Oregon with his father in 1988. Joel was in awe of the rustic beauty and un-crowded waters that Oregon had to offer. As a kid, Joel would hang out in surf shops and ponder what a cool job this would be. He loved everything about being in the surf shops, from the smell of wetsuit neoprene and surfboard wax, to watching surf videos on the tube.
