Description

The Kalkaska Conservation District is a local unit of state government and was founded in 1950. A locally elected five-member board of directors makes all decisions regarding the Districts programs and activities. These programs provide technical assistance, information, and education to assist the people in Kalkaska County to properly manage their natural resources. The District has been implementing water quality programs for eleven years. Effort has been focused on the Manistee, Boardman and Rapid Rivers, the three primary river systems in the county. To date, we have concentrated on the physical effects of erosion including stream bank stabilization, road / stream crossings, and access sites. We also provide a private lands forestry program, a state-wide sustainable agricultural program and a youth education program.
