La Janda
The school building of the La Janda Spanish language school dates from the middle of the nineteenth century and is constructed on top of the ancient Moorish town walls. Large sections of these walls, which were built in the eleventh century, have been conserved, including the watchtower, which overlooks our garden. The school has two Andalusian interior patios, a garden with orange trees, jasmine and bougainvillaea, a terrace facing south across rolling countryside and an enormous azotea or roof, with views in all directions, from Medina Sidonia in the north to Morocco in the south. All these areas are available for the use of students.
All the Spanish courses and programmes organised at La Janda IH Vejer are supplemented by extra-curricular activities: films, talks, visits to places of local interest, kite-surfing, cookery classes and sports. Each weekend there is an excursion of one or two days to places further afield–to Seville, Cordoba, Morocco, Cadiz, Ronda.
